Brandon Chen for this training webinar on the Interim Federal Health Program (IFHP) for refugees and refugee claimants. Webinar Overview: -History of the IFHP -Overview of the current IFHP Policy -The nuts and bolts of the IFHP (e.g., provider enrolment, coverage, billing, etc.) -Common challenges when accessing the IFHP & some practical tips for overcoming them -The impact of COVID-19 on providers’ and clients’ experiences with the IFHP -We will have plenty of time for a Q&A session with our speakers. Speakers: Siffan Rahman, MHA Former Manager, Ottawa Newcomer Health Centre Hosted by Somerset West Community Health Centre Siffan managed the Ottawa Newcomer Health Centre which provides health and mental health services to refugees and immigrants to ensure timely, coordinated and culturally appropriate care. She is passionate about diversity and works towards achieving an equitable system. She sits on the Ottawa Local Immigration Partnership’s Health and Wellbeing sector table and is a member of Canadian Association of Community Health Centre’s Newcomer Health working group. She is now moving onto a different role as the Director of Diabetes Programs with Centretown Community Health Centre. Y.Y. Brandon Chen, JD, MSW, SJD Professeur adjoint / Assistant Professor Faculté de droit / Faculty of Law Université d’Ottawa / University of Ottawa Y.Y. Brandon Chen is an Assistant Professor at University of Ottawa’s Faculty of Law, Common Law Section, where he teaches Canadian constitutional law, health law, and immigration and refugee law. Trained as a lawyer and a social worker, Y.Y. holds Doctor of Juridical Science from University of Toronto. His research leverages socio-legal studies, action research, and community engagement to critically examine health inequities facing noncitizens and racialized minorities. His published work has touched on such topics as migrant health care, the right to health, and social determinants of health.
